Umar ibn al-Khattab RC (584-644 CE) was a senior companion of the Prophet Muhammad and the second caliph (leader of the Muslim community) following the Prophet’s death. He played a significant role in the early history of Islam, including during the reigns of the first two caliphs, Abu Bakr and Umar.
