    The chemical equation for photosynthesis is:

    6 CO2 + 6 H2O + light energy → C6H12O6 + 6 O2

    In words, this equation means that carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) are converted into glucose (C6H12O6) and oxygen (O2) using energy from light. This process takes place in the chloroplasts of plant cells and some other photosynthetic organisms. During photosynthesis, light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, a green pigment in the chloroplasts, and used to power the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. The glucose produced by photosynthesis can be used as a source of energy for the plant, or it can be stored as starch for later use. The oxygen produced during photosynthesis is released into the atmosphere as a waste product.
